The Blank Wall

Since we moved into our house I find myself sitting in a room kind of like Meg Ryan in, You've Got Mail. This is the part in the movie she's evaluating her life and getting a new perspective sitting on the floor. Sometimes its good to get a new perspective by sitting in the room and visualize what you are going to do with your space and how you want it to feel.

We decided early on that our living room was a perfect space for a library.  I mean c'mone what are you going to do with a long blank wall in a living room? Why stack it with books please! Thus begins our journey into the D.I.Y of making a bookshelf. This is not for the faint hearted! It might take awhile, but it will get done!
This is what we are starting with- the big blank wall. The living room is on the left when you walk into our home.

Now for some library/bookshelf inspiration:

I have a ton more images of libraries and bookshelves on Pintrest. Let the adventure begin!

  1. I like the Meg Ryan photo- this would be typical of me just staring at my walls, and then with a blank piece of paper and pencil. I've been sketching what I would do with the walls on either side of the fireplace and built-ins are so beautiful; although we rent, so for now, I will have to buy something that can look similar to what I would like to create. But I look forward to the process of it all for when I do have my own house one day.
