ORC: Master Bedroom Makeover Plan

I'm excited to join Linda's One Room Challenge again! This is not a competition but a six week
challenge to push yourself to finish a room. Here are a couple of my other rooms I've done in the past:
                               Tween daughter's room                            Laundry room
For those of you who are coming over from Linda's site, let me introduce myself. I live in Maryland near
horse country and the Potomac river. My husband and I like to work on DIY projects together and we
have four girls. I love classic styles and pops of color. I love being a mom, running, baking and making
our home feel welcoming and happy.

The room I chose to work on is our master bedroom. Aka: The room on the back burner. We've lived in
our home for two years and the only big thing we did was to paint the walls. I did get some new curtains at
Marshall's awhile back too. When we moved in we got a King bed and some new white bedding.  Here's
the room in it's state right now.
See what I mean about back burner? Why do we have the kid's electric piano in here? The double doors
lead to our bathroom.
We've had this dresser for a long time. Last year I finally changed out the wooden knobs, but I think this
dresser might look better if I de-glossed it and took off the stain.
Don't you love this nice blank slate?

We have our work cut out for us if we're making a headboard, bench and changing the look of the dresser. A gallery wall of black and white family pictures would be nice too. This will be fun! Please come back on Thursdays to check on the progress of the room. Also, don't miss the other twenty designers who will not disappoint to inspire you.

2014: My Favorite Posts

It was nice to have a good break and be with family! I hope you had a great holiday too. 2014 was a busy year of projects in our home and taking care of four little girls. We've lived in our home for almost two years. It's a beautiful builder's grade (the hubs, Steve and I) we are trying to make feel cozy and our style. Here's a recap of some of my favorite projects and posts this year:
I gave our sconces a makeover with Rub N' Buff  and love how they turned out.
Steve and I made this frame for our daughter's room.

In the winter, I was a contestant in the Creating with the Stars contest where Steve and I made this Melrose knock-off table.

Color Block Dining Room Hutch: A week after the table project, we did a makeover to a dresser/buffet and added a hutch on top painting the whole thing in different shades of blue.
I love how this old tv stand turned into a stylish bar cart. Also, I show how I made this gold leaf mirror.

Our tween daughter's room turned out to be navy, coral and white. Love it!
In the summer, we brightened up our front entry by painting and adding trim.

My sisters and I worked together to create this nautical loft space for our family home on Martha's Vineyard.

In the Fall, I got organized the paper clutter by creating a command center on a skinny wall.
Steve and I made these bookshelves out of plywood for Home Depot and organized our home office.
Our laundry room now feels pretty, and organized with some hooks and built in cabinets.
I made this mirror into a large statement piece for our living room. You won't believe how inexpensive it was to make.
Lastly, this sofa has a long story that will be told soon, but I'm glad she's done! My tips for reupholstering furniture and getting over your fear of it are coming up soon.

I have to admit, this was a bit therapeutic for me to look back at some of the things that happened this year. If you're new to Right Up My Alley, I hope you'll stick around. Onto new adventures and projects for 2015! It's going to be a good one!

Girl's Tween Bedroom Week 5 of the ORC

Time is going fast it's already week five of the ORC challenge. You can see the progress of the room so far here and here. I had  this white side table that's been in our family for a long time and decided it would look great as a bedside table. I'm still waiting for some of my fabric to come in (hopefully tomorrow!). I can't wait to staple the fabric onto the headboard we made. I did get a new duvet at Ikea and I will be jazzing it up with some ribbon trim.
This little stool was a few bucks at a yard sale and will look great in here.
I got curtains at Ikea too.  The mess in the room is because I'm getting ready to paint the little hutch between the windows. I hoped there would be time to build some gorgeous window seats and shelves but my husband has been out of town lately and we went on a family trip over Spring break. Hopefully, we won't put off that project because we know our daughter would love it.
This cute desk will soon have a large bulletin board above it.
On another note, Steve's mom gave us some beautiful furniture that's been in the family for awhile. Some of these pieces are really old and will need to be strengthened but I'm so excited! I love the curved dresser. We might find something here that can be incorporated into the room. Next week is the reveal of this room so I think I'll be busy doing some projects this week. You can check out here what other designers are working on for their rooms here and here.
